III MEF Expeditionary Operations Training Group, ROK service members conduct multidomain reconnaissance course
MDRC 26.1 is an annual training evolution historically conduced in Hawaii. This iteration marks the first time this training is being conducted in South Korea with our ROK partners, a transition that strengthens the ROK-U.S. Alliance and ensures both forces are ready to integrate and operate effectively in any scenario.
“We are always looking for new training opportunities between the ROK and U.S. militaries to further develop our combined capabilities. The Multi-Domain Reconnaissance Course (MDRC) trains and tests the 31st MEU’s Force Reconnaissance Platoon’s ability to conduct the full spectrum of Reconnaissance missions in a simulated peer threat environment while leveraging support across multiple domains,” says Col Clinton Cummings, commanding officer of 3d Expeditionary Operations Training Group. “Having completed several weeks of training in Okinawa, the course will culminate in Korea building upon fundamental skills in a deployed for training environment. Conducting this course between ROK and U.S. militaries provides the opportunity for bilateral training, crisis response and embassy engagements, joint kill chain integration, live fire supporting arms, and full mission profile reconnaissance missions. We are excited about this opportunity to conduct realistic, challenging training to ensure we are prepared to face any challenges together.”
In preparation for the culminating event of MDRC 26.1, U.S. Marines conducted academics and practical training in Okinawa, Japan, focusing on multi-domain reconnaissance and surveillance before deploying to South Korea. The culminating exercise, running from 21 Oct to 06 Nov, tests the combined U.S.-ROK capability to conduct multi-domain reconnaissance in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in austere environments.
Through training evolutions such as this, the U.S.-ROK Alliance continues to fortify, ensuring both nations are ready and capable of a rapid response to any crisis while maintaining deterrence to ensure the Pacific remains stable, secure, and free.
